Crop image
Keep the face, the product or the horizon and cut away the rest. The box can be free, locked to a ratio, or shaped like a circle, a heart or a star.
Add one or more images (JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC and more).
or drop files here
Drag the box or its handles to choose the area. Keyboard: arrow keys move the box, Alt + arrow keys change its size.
Each image keeps its own crop: pick an image in the list to adjust it. Images you do not adjust use the centered box.
Rectangles keep the original format (GIF, BMP, HEIC and AVIF become JPG, or PNG with transparency). Shapes are saved as PNG with a transparent background, or as JPG with the background color you choose. Photo metadata (EXIF, GPS) is not copied.
Your files are processed on your own device and never uploaded.
How to use it
- Drop in one picture or many. A list of rows appears, and the first picture opens in the preview with a box on it.
- Choose an ‘Aspect ratio’ if the result must have a certain shape, such as 1:1 for an avatar. Leave it on ‘Free’ to shape the box as you like.
- Move the box by dragging it and resize it by its handles. The ‘X’, ‘Y’, ‘Width’ and ‘Height’ fields show the same box in pixels of the original, and you can type into them.
- For a round or star-shaped result, choose it under ‘Shape’, then use ‘Save shape as’ to decide what happens outside the shape.
- Working on a batch? Click another row, or step with ‘Previous image’ and ‘Next image’, and give that picture its own box.
- Press ‘Crop’, then ‘Download’ for one file or ‘Download all (ZIP)’ for several.
What it does
Ratios in both directions
‘Free’ plus nine fixed ratios. Each landscape ratio has a portrait twin, so 4:3 pairs with 3:4, 3:2 with 2:3, 16:9 with 9:16 and 4:5 with 5:4, while 1:1 stands alone.
Shapes beyond the rectangle
Choose ‘Rounded’ for soft corners with a ‘Corner radius’ slider, or ‘Circle / ellipse’, ‘Heart’, ‘Star’, ‘Hexagon’ or ‘Triangle’ for a cut-out. Moving from ‘Rectangle’ to one of those five with the ratio on ‘Free’ sets it to 1:1 so the shape comes out even, and ‘Free’ can be chosen again.
Choose what the outside becomes
‘Save shape as’ offers ‘PNG, transparent’ for a cut-out you can place on anything, or ‘JPG with background’, which fills the outside with a ‘Background color’ you pick.
Each picture gets its own box
Ratio and shape are shared across the batch; the position is not. Pictures you never touch are cropped from the middle, and their rows are marked as centered.
Empty margins can be trimmed
A logo or cut-out with a lot of blank space around it can be tightened with ‘Trim transparent edges’, which draws the box around the visible pixels. The button appears only when the picture has transparent pixels.
Fine control
A rule-of-thirds grid helps with composition. Arrow keys nudge the box, Alt + arrow keys grow or shrink it, and with a mouse or pen a drag across the picture starts a new box. ‘Centered box’ and ‘Whole image’ jump back to the middle or to the full frame.
Good to know
The right ratio depends on where the picture is going. A square crop on a face makes an avatar, 4:5 gives a feed post extra height, and 16:9 fits a video frame or a slide. Choose the ratio first and then place the box; it keeps its proportions as you drag. For an avatar, pick ‘Circle / ellipse’, center the face and save as ‘PNG, transparent’. If the place you upload to rejects PNG, choose ‘JPG with background’ and a color that suits the page.
A rectangle crop copies the pixels inside the box exactly, with no scaling, so a 1200 × 1200 box gives a 1200 × 1200 file. The file type stays as it was unless the original was GIF, BMP, HEIC or AVIF; those are written as JPG, or as PNG if they have see-through areas. JPG and WebP are encoded again at your ‘Quality’ setting, which starts at 92.
Crops above 16.7 megapixels are scaled down, which is the most a browser canvas can hold on every device, and the result line says so. Output names gain -cropped, and photo metadata such as GPS is not copied over. Touch screens can move and resize the existing box but cannot draw a new one. If a form wants exact dimensions, finish with Resize image.
Questions and answers
How do I make a circular profile picture?
Choose ‘Circle / ellipse’ under ‘Shape’, drag the box until the face sits inside it, and save with ‘PNG, transparent’. The corners of the file stay empty, so the picture can sit on any background.
Can I crop a photo to 4:5 for a feed post?
Yes. Pick 4:5 under ‘Aspect ratio’ and the box keeps that shape as you move and resize it. The saved picture holds the pixels inside the box, so its size depends on how large you drew it.
How do I crop many photos in one go?
Add them together and choose the ratio and shape once. Pictures you do not touch are cropped from the center; click a row to place its box by hand.
Will the picture get blurry after cropping?
No scaling happens, so the pixels inside the box are copied one for one. JPG and WebP files are encoded again, at the ‘Quality’ you set, so leave it high when the result matters.
What is ‘Trim transparent edges’ for?
It shrinks the box to the smallest rectangle that contains every visible pixel, which removes the empty border around a logo or a cut-out. The button is hidden for pictures without transparency.
Why can I not draw a box with my finger?
Touch input moves and resizes the box that is already there. Drawing a fresh box by dragging across the picture works with a mouse or a pen.
