PDF to JPG
Export the pages of a PDF as pictures for a slide, a web page or a photo editor. You decide how sharp they are and which pages come out.
Add one PDF.
or drop a file here
Your files are processed on your own device and never uploaded.
How to use it
- Press ‘Choose a file’ or drop a single PDF on the page. Its name shows up with the page count and the file size.
- Pick an ‘Image format’. JPG gives smaller files, PNG keeps edges crisp.
- Set the ‘Resolution’: ‘300 DPI, sharp’ for print, ‘150 DPI, standard’ for screens or ‘72 DPI, small’ for thumbnails.
- ‘Pages’ starts on ‘All pages’. To take only some, choose ‘Page range’ and enter something like 1-3, 5.
- Press ‘Convert to images’ and watch the status line count off the pages as they are drawn.
- ‘Download’ saves one image and ‘Download all (ZIP)’ saves them all. With several pages, each preview also has its own download link.
What it does
Know the pixel size in advance
An A4 page lands near 595 × 842 pixels at 72 DPI, 1240 × 1754 at 150 DPI and 2480 × 3508 at 300 DPI. US Letter gives 612 × 792, 1275 × 1650 and 2550 × 3300.
Name the pages you want
Enter 4 for a single page, 1-3, 5 for a mix, or 5- to run from page 5 to the end. Commas, spaces and semicolons all work as separators, and a number past the last page is refused with a note of how many pages the PDF has.
A white page every time
Each page is drawn on a white sheet first, so PNG files are solid white behind the content instead of transparent.
JPG to send, PNG to keep sharp
JPG output is saved at quality 90, so files stay small enough to mail or post. PNG loses nothing in the encoding, so text, tables and thin lines stay sharp, and the files weigh more.
Files named in page order
Names look like report-page-01.jpg. The number is padded to the width of the page count, so 12 pages sort correctly in any folder.
One page or the whole stack
‘Download all (ZIP)’ packs every page into one ZIP named after the PDF. With several pages, a small preview of each also appears, and its link saves just that image.
Good to know
DPI is the scale. A PDF page is measured in points, 72 to the inch, so 72 DPI gives one pixel per point. That is plenty for a thumbnail in a list or a small preview. Use 150 DPI for a slide or a phone screen. At 300 DPI, which is what printing asks for, small print stays readable when you zoom in.
Pick JPG when a page is mostly photographs, such as a brochure or a catalog spread, and PNG for text, tables, charts and line drawings. A PDF made from a scan is already a picture, so you get the scan back as an image; asking for more DPI than the scan has only makes a bigger file without adding detail. The words themselves are not recognized, so run the saved page through Image to Text (OCR) to read them. Need WebP instead? Pass the result through Image converter.
Pages are drawn the way a PDF viewer shows them, including a page's own rotation. When one page would pass roughly 16 megapixels at your chosen DPI, as a poster does at 300 DPI, it is drawn at a lower resolution instead of failing. A PDF with a password has to be unlocked first, and the tool says so when it meets one. For a long document at 300 DPI, convert a range at a time if your browser runs short of memory. To build a PDF out of pictures again, open JPG to PDF.
Questions and answers
Can I export just one page?
Yes. Switch ‘Pages’ to ‘Page range’, type the page number, such as 4, and press ‘Convert to images’. One image comes out.
What DPI do I need?
‘72 DPI, small’ is for thumbnails, ‘150 DPI, standard’ for screens and messages, and ‘300 DPI, sharp’ for print or fine text. Each step up makes the files bigger.
When should I pick PNG instead of JPG?
Choose PNG for pages of text, charts and drawings that must stay crisp; the files are larger. JPG is the better choice for pages full of photos, since it keeps them small.
How do I get every page in one go?
Leave ‘Pages’ on ‘All pages’, press ‘Convert to images’ and then ‘Download all (ZIP)’. The ZIP holds one numbered image per page.
Why are my images smaller than the DPI suggests?
A page that would pass about 16 megapixels is drawn at a lower resolution, which happens with posters at 300 DPI. A small page, such as A5, also has fewer pixels than A4 at the same DPI.
Can I convert a password-protected PDF?
Not directly. Remove the password first, then add the file again. The conversion itself runs on your device, so the PDF is not uploaded.
