Transparent areas become white in JPG.

Your files are processed on your own device and never uploaded.

How to use it

  1. Drop your pictures on the page or press ‘Choose files’. Pasting an image from the clipboard works too.
  2. Next to ‘Convert to’, pick JPG, PNG or WebP.
  3. For JPG and WebP, set the ‘Quality’ slider. It starts at 90 and is hidden for PNG, which keeps every pixel anyway.
  4. Press ‘Convert’. Each row in the list then shows its old file size next to the new one.
  5. Press ‘Download’ for one file or ‘Download all (ZIP)’ for the batch. The small download icon on a row saves just that picture.

What it does

  • Reads the file, not its name

The first bytes of each file tell the converter what it really is, so a WebP saved with a .jpg ending still opens. It reads JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC, AVIF, GIF, BMP and SVG. TIFF files are not supported.

  • Same pixels, new format

Width and height stay exactly as they were; only the way the picture is stored changes. If you need new dimensions as well, Resize image does that.

  • A quality slider you can check

‘Quality’ runs from 10 to 100 for JPG and WebP. When the batch is done, every row lists the size before and after, so you see what each setting did to the file.

  • HEIC from a phone

iPhone photos in HEIC come out as ordinary JPGs that nearly any app or upload form accepts. The decoder is about 3 MB and loads once, the first time a HEIC file needs it.

  • A whole folder in one go

Select every picture in a folder and convert them together. Converted files keep their names with a new ending, a clash gets a (2), and ‘Download all (ZIP)’ bundles everything into one archive.

  • Camera details stay behind

Each picture is redrawn and saved as pixels alone, so GPS position, camera model and shooting time do not travel into the new file. That is handy before you post a photo of something for sale.

Good to know

Which format should you pick? JPG is the safe choice for photos: small files that every phone, printer and upload form understands. PNG suits screenshots, logos and drawings, anything with sharp lettering or see-through areas, at the price of larger files. WebP is often smaller than both and works well on web pages, though a few forms and older programs still turn it away. When one does, fall back to JPG.

A conversion cannot add what is not there. A JPG saved as PNG gets bigger but not sharper, because detail the JPG already threw away does not come back. JPG and WebP are lossy, so saving a JPG as JPG again at 90 costs a little more detail; to make a file smaller without changing its type, use Compress image. Two more things to expect: transparent areas turn white in JPG, and an animated GIF becomes a still picture.

SVG logos are drawn at their own size, or with the long side at 1024 pixels when they are smaller, and saved as a regular picture. The pages for common pairs, such as HEIC to JPG, WebP to PNG and PNG to WebP, open this converter with the target format already chosen. This page remembers the format and quality you used last, in your browser only, and the pictures themselves never leave your device.

Questions and answers

How do I convert HEIC photos to JPG?

Add the HEIC files, leave ‘Convert to’ on JPG and press ‘Convert’. The first HEIC file triggers a one-time download of the decoder, about 3 MB.

Why did the see-through background turn white?

JPG cannot store transparency, so those pixels are filled with white. Choose PNG or WebP as the target to keep them transparent.

Can it open AVIF images?

Yes, when your browser can show AVIF. Current Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari can; if yours cannot, the converter tells you so instead of failing quietly.

Does converting lower the quality?

PNG output loses nothing. JPG and WebP trade a little detail for size, and at the default of 90 the difference is usually hard to see. Move ‘Quality’ toward 100 for more detail and bigger files.

Is the GPS location kept in the new file?

No. Only the pixels are saved, so location, camera model and shooting time are not copied. Your original file is not touched.

Can it convert TIFF or camera RAW files?

No. The drop box lists what it reads: JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC, AVIF, GIF, BMP or SVG. A file of any other type is refused with a message.
