Your files are processed on your own device and never uploaded.
How to use it
- Press ‘Choose files’ and select HEIC or HEIF photos, as many as you need, or drag them onto the page.
- JPG is already set under ‘Convert to’. Lower ‘Quality’ for smaller files (it starts at 90), then click ‘Convert’.
- Save one photo with ‘Download’, or collect the lot in a single archive with ‘Download all (ZIP)’.
Good to know
iPhones and iPads shoot HEIC unless you switch the camera to the Most Compatible format. HEIC packs a picture into fewer bytes than JPG, but plenty of Windows programs, web forms, print kiosks and older tablets cannot read it. JPG is the format nearly everything accepts, so it is the one to send, upload or print.
Before the very first HEIC file is converted, the page fetches a decoder, roughly 3 MB, one time only, so that run starts a little slower than later ones. Each JPG keeps the pixel dimensions of its photo, and the camera and location tags are not copied into it. Expect the JPG to be larger than the HEIC, because HEIC is the more efficient format; a lower ‘Quality’ brings the size back down.
Questions and answers
Why will a website not take my iPhone photo?
The photo is a HEIC file, and many upload forms accept only JPG or PNG. After conversion the same picture is a JPG, which the form recognizes.
Is the JPG bigger or smaller than the HEIC?
Usually bigger, since HEIC stores the same picture in fewer bytes. Lowering ‘Quality’ trims the JPG, and the file list shows each new size beside the old one.
Can I convert a whole camera roll at once?
Yes, within what your device can hold in memory. The photos are processed one after another and come back as one ZIP. On a phone, several moderate batches are safer than a single huge one.
