WebP to PNG converter

Keep the see-through background. This turns WebP logos, icons and cut-outs into PNG files that open in nearly any editor.

Add images: JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC, AVIF, GIF, BMP or SVG.

Transparent areas become white in JPG.

Your files are processed on your own device and never uploaded.

How to use it

  1. Add your WebP files with ‘Choose files’, or drag them onto the page.
  2. Set ‘Convert to’ to PNG. The ‘Quality’ slider disappears for PNG, because a lossless file has nothing to trade. Click ‘Convert’.
  3. Take a single PNG with ‘Download’, or bundle the batch with ‘Download all (ZIP)’.

Good to know

A logo on a colored slide, a sticker over a photo, a product cut-out on a shop banner: all of them need their see-through areas to stay see-through. WebP and PNG can both hold transparency, and this conversion carries it across untouched. PNG is also the safer format for editors, slide software and print shops that have not caught up with WebP.

The price is file size. PNG records every pixel exactly, so a photo-like WebP can grow a lot when it becomes a PNG. The conversion adds no new loss, but it cannot bring back detail the WebP already dropped. An animated WebP comes out as a single still PNG. For a plain photo you only want to share, WebP to JPG gives a lighter file.

Questions and answers

My WebP logo has a transparent background. Will the PNG?

Yes, the see-through parts carry over as they are. A white background gets painted in only when you choose JPG.

Why does the PNG weigh so much more?

WebP squeezes pixels harder. PNG keeps every one of them, which costs space, especially for photographs.

Does the picture keep its pixel size?

Yes. The PNG has the same width and height as the WebP; nothing is resized.
