How to use it

  1. Press ‘Choose files’ or drop pictures onto the page. The ‘Width’ and ‘Height’ boxes fill in with the size of the first one.
  2. Leave ‘What to do’ on ‘Resize’. Under ‘Resize by’, choose ‘Pixels’ and change ‘Width’ or ‘Height’; with ‘Keep aspect ratio’ ticked, the other side follows. Choose ‘Percentage’ to scale by a percent instead.
  3. In a hurry? Tap a button under ‘Quick sizes’: 800 × 600, 1280 × 720, 1920 × 1080 or 1080 × 1080.
  4. Under ‘Save as’, pick the output type. ‘Same as original’ keeps JPG as JPG and PNG as PNG.
  5. Press ‘Resize’. The rows then show the new pixel size and file size of every picture.
  6. Press ‘Download’, or ‘Download all (ZIP)’. Each file name ends with its size, as in mug-1200x800.jpg.

What it does

  • Pixels or percent

Type a width and height up to 12,000 pixels a side, or scale by any percentage from 1 to 400. The percentage box starts at 50, which halves both sides.

  • Type one side, get the other

‘Keep aspect ratio’ is ticked at the start. Give a width and the height follows, picture by picture, so a mixed batch of tall and wide photos comes out at one width with each keeping its own shape. Untick it to set both sides freely, which stretches the picture.

  • Quick sizes that fill the frame

A quick size gives exactly that many pixels. If the picture has a different shape, it is scaled until it covers the frame and the overflow is trimmed evenly from the edges, so nothing is squashed.

  • Crop to choose the part

Switch ‘What to do’ to ‘Crop’ and pick ‘Free’ or one of five ratios under ‘Crop shape’: 9:16, 16:9, 3:2, 4:3 or 1:1. Then move or resize the box. Cropping works on one picture at a time, the first in the list.

  • Choose the output format

Besides ‘Same as original’, ‘Save as’ offers JPG, PNG and WebP. ‘Same as original’ writes HEIC and AVIF photos as JPG, and GIF, BMP and SVG pictures as PNG. Whatever you pick is remembered for next time.

  • Opens what phones and websites produce

JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP, SVG, AVIF and HEIC all open. JPG and WebP results are saved at a fixed quality of 92.

Good to know

Choose the size by where the picture is going. 1080 × 1080 is a square post. 1920 × 1080 fills a full HD screen or slide, 1280 × 720 suits a video thumbnail or a lighter slide, and 800 × 600 is a small web or forum image. If a shop wants square product shots, the 1080 × 1080 button handles a whole batch and trims the long side of each photo evenly.

Fewer pixels usually means a smaller file, but not always. JPG and WebP results are saved at quality 92, so an original that was compressed harder can come out larger even after shrinking; Compress image fixes that. Making a picture bigger works up to 400 percent, yet it only spreads the same pixels over more space. For a true enlargement, Upscale image uses an AI model instead of simply stretching.

Sizes are checked against what a browser can draw. A result with a side above 12,000 pixels is refused, and a phone can run short of memory sooner when you add many large photos, so resize those in smaller groups. Transparent areas turn white when you save as JPG, and camera data such as GPS location is not copied into the resized files.

Questions and answers

Can I resize a picture without squashing it?

Yes. ‘Keep aspect ratio’ is ticked at the start, so type only a width or only a height and the other side is worked out from the picture's own shape. Quick sizes do not distort either, they trim the edges.

What is the quickest way to get a 1080 × 1080 picture?

Tap the 1080 × 1080 quick size. A photo that is not square loses an equal strip from two opposite sides. To choose which part stays, switch to ‘Crop’ with 1:1, then resize the cropped file to 1080, since a crop keeps the original pixels.

Can I give a whole batch the same width?

Yes. Add the pictures, type the width with ‘Keep aspect ratio’ ticked and press ‘Resize’. Each picture gets that width and a height that fits its own shape.

Why is my resized file bigger than the original?

JPG and WebP results are saved at a fixed quality of 92, so an original that was compressed harder can grow even with fewer pixels. Run the result through Compress image to bring it back down.

Is there a size limit?

A side above 12,000 pixels is refused. Before that, the limit is your device's memory, and phones run out sooner than computers.

Are my pictures uploaded?

No. The resizing happens in your browser, and the files never leave your device.
